The collective concert will take place on 7 August from 11 am to 4 am the following morning at Praia da Santa Cristina de Oleiros in Galicia. Also known as A Festa dos Mundos, the event is part of Xacobeo 2010 and the main highlight will be the musicians sharing the stage with each other and performing live. It is not, of course, a new idea, just an extension of a familiar concept at festivals. The success of this project with its focus on African music makes this year particularly attractive. Musicians from seven countries (Algeria, Spain, USA, UK, Mali, Nigeria and South Africa) have agreed to participate, and they include Amadou & Mariam, Amparo Sánchez, Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, John Paul Jones, Rachid Taha and Rokia Traoré. It is also expected that other artists such as Eliades Ochoa will be taking part in these concerts, according to the organisers' MySpace page. In previous years, the idea went down so well that it gave them ideas for future projects. "Coming here was like being young again, like getting excited about something again", commented the singer Martha Wainwright. "I can easily say that it was the craziest concert I've played at in my entire life", explained Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The festival's musical director is the English singer-songwriter, Damon Albarn, who is famous, among other things, for co-creating the animated virtual band, Gorillaz.
