Seward is a sextet of unconventional musicians that play jazz, folklore, experimental rock and electronica. Pablo Schvarzman, one of the musicians in the group, also contributes to GladysPalmera.com's The Insider programme. Schvarzman and his band combine voice and electronic manipulation with the richness of the bass, drums, the cello and the piano, among other instruments. Their starting point is the origins of electronic music and their objective is to find the boundaries of what is known as "song". The performers are taking a risk by avoiding traditional structures, walking along an abyss and approaching the meltdown of the generic concept of music. Something beyond genres and even further beyond networks. It only backs live sounds. It may be risky, but it is precisely because of this daring that it is so valuable. Disjointed interludes combine with moments of painful intensity that only true heavyweights can achieve. Their first album, Home, will be released in five different parts. It's the kind of music that a child may put on for the first time and which could be heard at a funeral to say farewell.
Seward will put on a free show as part of BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical) on Thursday 23 September at 4pm in Barcelona.
