About Radio Gladys Palmera
A very flavourful history
Promoted by the Association of Friends of Culture and Caribbean Music, Gladys Palmera was launched as a radio station in Barcelona in June 1999 on 96.6 FM. It was the first radio station specialising in Latin music in Spain.
Since being founded, it has benefited from the drive and leadership of Alejandra Fierro Eleta ( better known as Gladys Palmera), who had become well known years earlier as one of the major driving forces behind Latin music in Spain on the COPE radio station with her programme called Sabrosura.
After a decade in existence, Radio Gladys Palmera was broadcasting in Madrid (103.2 FM) and Valencia (104.7 FM), and was also broadcasting online on the website www.gladyspalmera.com. The website gradually extended to different social networks and is very popular throughout the world with four specialised music channels that were independent of the radio programme schedule.
Supported by the vast and up-to-date personal music collection of its director, www.gladyspalmera.com currently offers content that is in keeping with the times: global sounds, culture, news and broadcast media, therefore becoming an ambitious and highly spirited music alternative. All of this is backed up by the knowledge and passion of presenters and specialised writers from various countries. In the early days, programmes such as Calle Heredia, Sabrosura Classic, Memoria de La Habana and Tanga appeared on the broadcast channel, Live FM, to which have been added the programmes that make up the sophisticated online programme schedule of today, with its unstinting endorsement of global sounds. These programmes include Boomerang, Future Beats, Músicas del Agua, La Hora Faniática and Latin Roll. Our music sections, which are called Global Sound, are part of what we call our “signature” formula. We call it that because we not only present the most extensive coverage of current international music as part of it, but also because its presentation and execution follow strict criteria of music quality and journalistic effectiveness.
This is the editorial criterion under which Gladys Palmera is consolidating a music broadcasting style that deserves the plaudits of the national and international press, musicians, managers, record companies and cultural institutions. A style in which the cultural richness of the music is as important as the freshness and warmth it is presented with.www.gladyspalmera.com is the best way of finding out about world music, given its variety of fusion and its quality.
